adhas cordhvam prasrtas tasya sakha

guna-pravrddha visaya-pravalah
adhas ca mulany anusantatani

karmanubandhini manushya-loke

na rupam asyeha tathopalabhyate

nanto na cadir na ca sampratishtha
ashvattham enam su-virudha-mulam

asanga-sastrena drdhena chittva

TRANSLATION

The branches nurtured by the modes and the five sense objects being its tendril spread downward and upward. And the roots which bind the soul by the fruitful actions are outspreading in the world. In this world, real form of the tree cannot be comprehended. Only its work and modification can be seen. Neither its end nor its origin nor its foundation can be seen. Thus, cutting the deep rooted fig tree with weapon of detachment.
